2010 PDX Pop Now! picks: 3 days of free, local, all-ages indie music
July 29, 2010
Catch Hockey close down Saturday night's festivities
The 3-day, all-ages, free 2010 PDX Pop Now! festival kicks off this weekend at Rotture. Held every summer–now seven years running–the fest has grown into a 3-day event featuring 48 local, Portland acts from July 30th, 31st and August 1st.
The festival combines artists from all genres in hopes that you will show up to see one band but discover another piece of stupendous local talent on one of the two stages–indoor and out.
Hi. I’m Jenni and I’m Amanda – we are part of the band, Acoustic Minds. As musicians in Portland, we value the amazing support we get from the community, whether it’s playing at a local venue or at one of Portland’s fantastic festivals. We’ve taken our music all over the world, but we've always wished we had more opportunities to share our music with the community right here in Portland. Well, this year we’re going to make it happen! KZME will be on the air and will be dedicated to airing local music. The price tag for a transmitter and studio is a pretty hefty one – help make this a reality!
Amanda, Jenni and the whole band will be singing their heart's out on Sunday afternoon. Keegan Smith & The Fam will be joining in on the fun as well. We hope you can join in, too, on July 18 (that's THIS Sunday) at The Skyway Bar and Grill in Zig Zag to help us celebrate and raise money for KZME radio.
Not only will their be fabulous music, we'll be selling raffle tickets for these great gifts:
* All Season Gift Basket - Includes a two night stay for two in a cabin on the Mt. Hood, breakfast at Still Creek Inn, a bottle of wine and a gift certificate from All Season's Gifts...
* Candlewood Suites - (2) One night stay certificates for the Candlewood Suites Hotel at the Portland airport...
* KZME Gift Basket - a cool t-shirt, bumper sticker, Pop Tomorrow CD, antenna ball and gift membership...
* $20 Gift Certificate - Schedeen's garden store in Gresham or Boring...
Please distribute this message far and wide in order to get the word out yonder - thanks!

Yup. Second Annual benefit show at the Skyway Bar & Grill on July 18. Tickets are $10.00 each (kids under 18 - donation of $5.00 each).
Check out this great video clip that Emily Vidal of MetroEast Community Media produced with those delightful gals from Acoustic Minds, Jenni Price and Amanda Price. Keegan Smith & the Fam will also be performing - we LOVE them!!!
I watched this interesting documentary a few days ago and thought I'd share it with all my fellow KZME-ers. It's called "Before the Music Dies" and it's about the commercialization of the music industry and radio. Watch it, love it, and then donate to KZME to help get the music industry back to what it was meant to do; promote new talent and expose people to all kinds of wonderful music!
OMG. One of my favorite Portland bands - y la bamba - is playing the same night as Mirah at Mississippi Studios on July 10. Yipee! And if you sign up for our Z Notes by July 1, you might be there as I have a few tickets, you know (21+). Yowzah!
Here's a little sample of y la bamba......fasting in San Francisco....
