Alberta Rose Theatre

Alberta Rose Theatre’s grand opening Thursday night
by Tom D'Antoni - Oregon Music News - June 23, 2010

The Alberta Rose Theatre today, ready for music.

First of all, Portland’s newest music venue spells its last name “Theatre,” no matter what spell-check tells you. But a movie theater which first opened in 1927 deserves the respect that the “re” brings.

Song of the Week – The Slants

Slants 150x150 Song of the Week The Slants

From the band's MySpace page....

In case you haven’t heard, The Slants are an Asian synth-pop band that have been melting faces off all over the country. Since the creation of the band, The Slants have toured the country five times, received press for turning down a million dollar recording contract as well as being banned from a venue in Portland due to breathing fire, and were the first and only Asian band to be a Fender Music featured artist.

Day - 6
BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet
Sarah Savoy & The Francadians

Queen Elizabeth Hall rang with cajun music. Richard Thompson sat in with BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, and everyone enjoyed a dance with Ms. Savoy and her band in the foyer afterward. Especially the Director and his lady. The Southbank Centre, being part of the National Arts complex here is really doing great work providing high quality, free community events as part of the festival.
