StationToStation is the brainchild of Portland recording engineer and producer, Sean Flora, who envisioned bringing the recording studio experience to a wider audience. He and the musicians set up to record just as they would to make an album–paying special attention to the selection and placement of microphones, arranging the musicians so they can best see and hear each other–and spend the day recording new tracks. The live audience is invited in to witness new recordings taking place and to get to know the band a little, while the signal is simultaneously broadcast over the air.
The Society Of The Inner Ear is a consortium of Portland's finest voice actors serving up the finest in radio theater with a healthy side of cheese! Produced in several Portland recording studios, we come with the intent of transporting the listener to the nether reaches of the world and the soul.
The show airs on Sundays, from 2 pm to 3 pm, on 1071 FM KZME radio! If you missed the debut, no worries! Just click here to listen.
Portland indie/rock duo Josh and Mer enchanted us with this video for their song “Mind Control” from their first full length album “Planet Music.” Part videosong, part underwater dream, part creepy, all awesome, this video came out last month. Like what’s on screen, and want to see them on stage? Josh and Mer will be playing live at PDX/MV, a music video showcase being held at the Hollywood Theater on April 9, featuring lots more great local talent!
S O N G > Bear & Moose -"Shock N Awe"
This song comes to us from another great Portland duo, Bear & Moose. This single is off Bear & Moose’s self titled debut album, released this year. The song speaks for itself, so have a listen. When you have finished rocking out, we suggest you get out your calendar and pencil in – no, permanent-ink in – Bear & Moose’s next live show: Mississippi Studios, May 18.
Hey all! As always more performances are brewing. The Organ Grinders series is rolling on with a jazzy score by three time winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award. For the April 19 performance, local jazz wizard Ezra Weiss brings his team of hardworking musicians to the Hollywood Theatre.
The Organ Grinders silent film series takes you sleuthing around the movie theatre. The case: Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr, a 1924 tale of love, rivalry, thieves, and the movies. Also included in this evening’s fare will be the 1921 Buster Keaton short THE GOAT, a classic tale of mistaken identity.
Ezra Weiss has composed and/or arranged music for, among many others, Billy Hart, Leon Lee Dorsey, and Rob Scheps. He has composed music and lyrics to two children’s musicals and his effortless approach to jazz has garnered him the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award three times.
In a special one-time performance, the Hollywood Theatre is transformed back to its vaudeville days of bowler hat bedecked musicians and big screen spectacles.
Our song of the week, “Walk,” comes from Portland’s Leigh Marble. This single is off Leigh’s forthcoming album, “Where The Knives Meet Between The Rows,” on Laughing Stock Records. Like what you hear? You’re in luck! The album release date is not until April 24, but there’s a release show right here in Portland on Thursday March 29. Check out Leigh Marble’s website to hear some more previews from the album and place your preorder, and don’t forget to get tickets to the show at The Doug Fir!
S H O W > StationToStation
Have you heard about our newly broadcasting show StationToStation? No?! Well you’re in luck. Not only is it our pick of the week, but there’s a live broadcast coming up this weekend! StationToStation is the brainchild of Portland recording engineer and producer, Sean Flora, who envisioned bringing the recording studio experience to a wider audience. A live audience sits in on the recording process, while the whole experience is broadcast live over the air. StationToStation had its debut KZME broadcast with Meester & Meester earlier this month. Coming up on March 25, you can hear another StationToStation featuring Duover, 7pm sharp from the Secret Society Ballroom – and, of course, broadcast live on 1071 FM or right here on KZME.fm.
1071 FM KZME Radio is proud to serve as a sponsor for The Wolf-Child's Mother, a production by Trip the Dark:
Oh no! Red has been impregnated by her big bad boyfriend, Wolf. To avoid the embarrassment of an illegitimate wolf cub, her religious conservative parents ship her off to her washed-up Hollywood starlet grandmother in Oregon, where all things shameful go to hide. What will happen to the baby? Will Wolf eat Grandmother? Will there be tongue-in-cheek strobe light dancing to "I'm Too Sexy?" Stalked by her jilted baby daddy, Red will encounter gypsies, giant psilocybin mushrooms, a heroic hunter and ultimately her own redemption--through dance!
This is a 21 and over performance. Complete details about the show and ticket purchases can be found here. Be sure to tune into 1071 FM as we plan on giving a a pair of tickets away over the next week or so!
Record stores were the community centers for many cities and towns around the country, especially in the late ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. They were a place where community in the love of music brought people together. Friendships were made and partners in life were found as people shared their interest and love of music.
On Community Day at Music Millennium, there will be free refreshments, special one-day deals, live music, and a variety of unique events throughout the year. Monday, April 2 will be the next Community Day and will include the Songwriters’ Circle at 7:00 PM:
Laurel Brauns: "With equal hints of dusky bluegrass and clarion Celtic folk, Brauns has written a batch of tunes that are brimming with earthy pulchritude, highlighted by her remarkable vocals and subtle but involving production from Portland Cello Project's Douglas Jenkins...Jim Bolland grew up around New York City playing jug band, folk and blues music in bands that almost no one remembers today. After a stint in the Bay Area playing with such notables as the Spin Cats (of Berkeley), Jim found his way to Oregon in 1979...Jack McMahon is a performing songwriter as well host and organizer of the Music Millennium Songwriters’ Showcase. McMahon has been a working musician for all of his adult life and over the years has fronted some of Portland's more notable bands.
