Known for their transience in music and mind, body and band, Nurses have been dawdling around Portland, just maybe coming to a halt, calling our city home. With their trippy pop and backwards rock, the trio’s quirky sounds are layered dreams that feel like you’re listening to multiple songs at once. Seeping through the sieve of their textures emerges a rusty but sunny sound that’s dysfunctionally charming and gorgeously psychedelic...

The Foundations name-sake, musician Jeremy Wilson (The Dharma Bums, Pilot, Mastan Music) formed the foundation because of his personal experiences since being diagnosed with a serious congenital heart condition called Wolf-Parkinson-White. He has learned, by what Wilson calls “his education by fire” all about the need for adequate health care for himself and his fellow musicians. And because of the great outpouring of goodwill he experienced from those that have helped him through his own trial these last four years, he wants to pay forward the same goodwill to others.

KZME is a non-commercial radio station dedicated to broadcasting local music, supporting local arts and culture, and sharing information about east county public affairs. The station is scheduled to go on the air October 2010. As a non-profit organization, we will depend on the talents and dedication of experienced volunteer deejays. We will offer training opportunities some time in early to mid 2011.

We are seeking proposals for music programs. Proposals will be accepted between August 16 through September 10.

The majority of air time will be a mixed bag of mostly current alternative music with a strong emphasis on indie rock and including elements of Electronica, Hip-Hop, Americana, Reggae, Folk and R&B. At least one third of material played should have a 'local connection' (see below for some guidance).

We are also asking for proposals for block programming concentrating on a musical genre or compelling theme. Some suggested genres/themes: Vinyl Only, Heavy Metal, Reggae, Americana/Roots, Garage/Underground, Jam Bands, Dance, Electronic, Goth/Industrial, Experimental, ProgRock/Space Rock, International Rockabilly, Punk, Hip-Hop, Music News/Playing Tonight in Portland.

Download application here: KZME MUSIC PROGRAM PROPOSAL FORM

Please include an air check with your proposal. It should include: a Station ID, forward/back announcing, interview (optional), and other related components (e.g. concert calendar).

15 minute air check for mix genre programming.

1 hour air check for specialty programming.

Thanks so much for submitting your proposal! Please keep in mind that FCC rules and regulations will apply once programs are distributed and we cannot use any kind of pirate recordings. Also note that if your program is selected, it will be scheduled based on our final needs and you must be available for the hours listed every week once the final schedule is determined. All programs will be subject to KZME policy.

Here's a list of how we will define 'local':

Music written by local artists, performed by local artists, played in a local venue.
Music played by local artists in a local venue.
Music written by local artists, played by local artists in a non-local venue.
Music played in a local venue by non-local musicians.
Music that was influenced by a local musician.
Music that was recorded in a local studio.
Music distributed by a local label.
Music that 'sounds' like it came from Portland or belongs in Portland.
Music, that in some way, reflects local values, history or landscape.

Basically, the definitions includes music that is performed by, or written by, anyone who lives or has lived in the Portland area or has recently, or will soon perform in the Portland area. A small portion of representation can be from artists in the Pacific Northwest region.

In addition, it is our intention to play music not already well represented on the local dial.

Applications and materials can be sent to:
