Catch Hockey close down Saturday night's festivities

The 3-day, all-ages, free 2010 PDX Pop Now! festival kicks off this weekend at Rotture. Held every summer–now seven years running–the fest has grown into a 3-day event featuring 48 local, Portland acts from July 30th, 31st and August 1st.

The festival combines artists from all genres in hopes that you will show up to see one band but discover another piece of stupendous local talent on one of the two stages–indoor and out.

General Information

KZME is a non-commercial radio station dedicated to broadcasting local music, supporting local arts and culture, and sharing information about east county public affairs. The station is scheduled to go on the air in 2010.

As a non-commercial station, KZME will not air advertising and will be supported by listeners, business partners, special events and various grant funding.

MetroEast Community Media, along with a coalition of community groups, received word on May 6, 2008 that its application for a non-commercial, educational (NCE) radio station had been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

MetroEast Community Media administers eight cable channels and offers video production workshops, providing individuals, community groups and non-profit organizations a way to discuss community issues through video. As our parent organization, it provides administrative assistance and technical support, namely in the production of promotional spots for our media partnerships.

The KZME transmitter will be located on Mt. Hood in Brightwood and the studio will be located in Gresham. A translator was purchased in 2009. The broadcast area will reach most of the east metro and Portland metro areas.

What is Local?

Here's a list of how we will define 'local':

Music written by local artists, performed by local artists, played in a local venue.
Music played by local artists in a local venue.
Music written by local artists, played by local artists in a non-local venue.
Music played in a local venue by non-local musicians.
Music that was influenced by a local musician.
Music that was recorded in a local studio.
Music distributed by a local label.
Music that 'sounds' like it came from Portland or belongs in Portland.
Music, that in some way, reflects local values, history or landscape.

In addition, it is our intention to play music not already well represented on the local dial.

Dharma Bums Reunion Show KZME was thrilled to serve as media sponsor for the Dharma Bum reunion show! Music Millennium and Ramblin Road Touring and Management presented the Dharma Bums Reunion Show in conjunction with Music Millennium's 40th Anniversary at the Crystal Ballroom on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Dharma Bums also released their CD collection of never released archival recordings from 1987. Special guests included Derby and and The Young Fresh Fellows.

Portland Makes Music A showcase of local musical talent brought to you by Willamette Week.

Music on Main Street 2009 This annual summer series is took place between July 8th and August 26th on Main Street (between the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and the Portland Center for the Performing Arts building on Broadway) in downtown Portland.

Music for Medicine A great benefit show with performances by Rachel Taylor Brown, Wester Daywick, and The Mark Twain Indians.It was a fundraising event for Wallace Medical Concern on September 23rd at Mississippi Studios.

D'Merde Salon at The Woods D’Merde Salon took place at The Woods located in Sellwood on October 29, 2009 and The Know on April 23, 2010. The event included music, an art show and readings from local celebrity writers.

Keys to the City The Portland State Piano Club presents their debut CD release party as a benefit for My Voice Music and the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division. The event takes place on December 17 at Sherman Clay, located at 131 NW 13th Ave in downtown Portland.

Its time for a block party! Join the community outside of 3rd Central – located at 134 NW 3rd Street in downtown Gresham – for an evening of celebration. KZME is moving into the space later this summer - Join us along with our landlord, fellow tenants and the chamber of commerce in celebrating the new space. The event will include music and light beverages. All the fun is 8/12 from 5 pm to 7 pm.

We had a great time this past weekend up at the Skyway Bar & Grill in Zig Zag for the KZME benefit show. Acoustic Minds and Keegan Smith & The Fam had us on the dance floor and fun was had by all.

Hi. I’m Jenni and I’m Amanda – we are part of the band, Acoustic Minds. As musicians in Portland, we value the amazing support we get from the community, whether it’s playing at a local venue or at one of Portland’s fantastic festivals. We’ve taken our music all over the world, but we've always wished we had more opportunities to share our music with the community right here in Portland. Well, this year we’re going to make it happen! KZME will be on the air and will be dedicated to airing local music.
